  • I don't think she really learnt much. She didn't install the I/O plate which means she could have grounding issues later on. She duct tapped the SSD which means she didn't learn where that actually goes in the case. Did she learn that moving the GPU around in the pciex slot could damage the slot? Lifiting the CPU arm seemed to have been done off camera so I think if she learnt anything, she learnt it off camera as you seemed to have filmed most of her mistakes and not her learning from them.

Also ran Core Temp and CPU-Z at the same time. Results: Maximum watt usage on PC at maximum stresstest were only 425W. Also CPU temp never went over 79 Celsius ever. When this setup have 25% left on PSU at max, but games don't even use as much as 425W to work. Then why are 750W-1000W PSU "required" on this setup?...

Also, if she knew they were planning to shoot this video at least a couple days ahead of time, why would she not watch one or two build vlogs when time allowed? (at this point, she would have ~85% of Linus' computer knowledge) Perhaps while taking a shit.

  • I think the answer to this is yes, building your own PC with her level of knowledge of components is a bad idea. Sure, you could always ask other people/forum for advice (and to make sure you don't buy things incompatible with each other) but I think it's beyond risky when you really don't understand the differences in your choices ... That being said, I think she did a really good job figuring out how to assemble it. I'm not sure the "average person" could have got that far ...

  • Many kudos to her. I’ve worked in computing for thirty+ years and she did better than I could. However I don’t work on hardware, I write Mainframe OS’s or component level electronics. Getting all the modules sourced and assembled is a big deal, good job. I see the future as massively parallel computing (MPC), and that’s coming with Raspberry Pi’s and Arduino’s. Imagine 255 CPUs running at 600Mhz each, I can build a super computer in a PC form factor. We are seeing the evolution of MPC trying to crack the largest prime number problem.

  • Very interesting comments here: Oh don't do this! She is cute. (and yes she is btw...) .... BUT NOONE says it should be made way easier for the future. USB-C shows how it is done. USB in general does. Also hdmi, vga and power cables do. It are 15+ parts and way more cables. So why not make 6 parts which can be only in 1 way clipped into the other or are connected by a single cable? There could be a "Cage" (case with built-in mainboard+fan) in which the user puts "Powerbox" (PSU+USV) + "Speedbox" (GPU+CPU+fan) + "Storagebox" (RAM+HDD/SSD), before giving in a "Softwarecard/-stick" (SD/Flash with OS). Then there is 1 cable to a "Inputbox" (keyboard+mouse/touch) on the table which holds ports for "Outputboxes" (display+speaker or printer+scanner). It would be way better for the hardware. And only advanced ones need to open these boxes... Have a look on the Raspberry Pi400 and how it is setup. Or any tablet or smartphone. Or on the consoles. There should be noone asking why these are gaining presence on the market while the PC loses more and more. Don't you think?

  • Well I think more research into building a computer is your best way to build your first computer lol.. I was 65 when I built my first computer and I have refurbished quite a few older desktops now and done some simple upgrades so I can resell them just to fund my joy in being able to play with computers and ISpast and the various guys online of which you Linus are amongst the best of lol and it's always great to watch your perspective on various things.. I myself have mainly played with Intel mainly so I don't have to worry about having to flash the bios lol but if I did go Ryzen the company I buy my bits off will do it for me for free so thats always a bonus. I just enjoy the simplicity of Intel and I prefer the cpu coolers I can actually screw into the plate rather than the lever type as I often wonder about applying to much pressure on some items .. But it was enjoyable watching this video and I also cringed with her testing method and the wobbling on the graphics card to see if it was seated properly lol.
